The Belgians and their drunken mussels

Just like most Belgians I am a big fan of mussels and since I was a kid I must have eaten mussels hundreds of times. I cleaned tons of mussels at the boy-scouts for our annual mussels fest and at my uncle's restaurant to earn some extra bucks when I was a teenager. So along the way I picked up a couple of delicious mussel recipes In the past I have already shared several mussel recipes and here goes another one for you all: drunken mussels!

Ingredients Drunken Mussels

  • 1 kg mussels (you can add some clams if you want)
  • 4 Tbsp of butter
  • 3 Tbsp of argan oil
  • 5 minced cloves of garlic
  • 2 sliced small red chilli pepper
  • 200ml of white wine
  • 5 Tbsp of fine cut parsley
  • Salt and pepper

Drunken Mussels

Directions Drunken Mussels

  • Clean the mussels (and clams), remove beards and leave them in a bowl of cold water for 15 minutes.
  • Melt the butter in a skillet. Add argan oil, garlic and chilli pepper and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the white wine and parsley. Season with pepper and salt.
  • Add the mussels and clams and the mixture boil, covered for 3-4 minutes.

Crack open a bottle of white wine or vine verde and indulge!
